Following cataract surgery, the retained cortex and nucleus respond differently: While the nucleus triggers a potent, destructive inflammatory response, the cortex only induces low-grade inflammation. Increased postoperative drops are administered more frequently, and if necessary, IOP-lowering medications are added.
