The study demonstrates that preoxygenation with noninvasive ventilation significantly reduces the incidence of hypoxemia during tracheal intubation in critically ill adults, compared to preoxygenation with an oxygen mask. This finding supports a potential shift in clinical practice to enhance patient safety during emergency intubations.
