Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has once again been recognized as one of the top medical schools in the nation, ranking 13th among research-oriented institutions, according to the latest US News & World Report rankings. This marks the 16th consecutive year that Feinberg has placed in the top 20. The rankings underwent changes in methodology, incorporating factors such as federal research awards, surveys completed by deans and senior faculty at peer institutions, and entering class data. Feinberg’s commitment to patient-centered care, breakthrough discoveries, innovation, and exceptional medical education remains unwavering. Feinberg’s specialty programs also received recognition, with seven programs ranking among the best in the nation, including obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pediatrics, anesthesiology, radiology, psychiatry, and internal medicine. The physician assistant program saw a notable improvement in its ranking, moving from 26th to 8th. Additionally, Feinberg’s school of public health ranked 28th. Physicians and advanced practice practitioners average $3.8 million in annual billing to commercial payers. AMN Healthcare tracked billings to commercial payers by 18 different medical specialties, as well as nurse practitioners and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), in a recent research.This research solely includes billings for services delivered directly by physicians, nurse practitioners, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. It excludes the revenue generated by testing, treatments, prescriptions, and other health-care services.

There were 55,188 applicants to US medical schools for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle, according to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Each of these applicants applied to 18 different medical schools, for a total of over 990,000 applications across all schools. In-state applicants outnumber out-of-state applicants. Among the 55,188 applicants, 24.6% enrolled in a medical school in their home state; 16.5% enrolled out of state. The remaining 59% were either rejected or chose not to enroll. Male medical students are now outnumbered by female students. There were 55% females and 45% males among the 22,692 first-year enrollees. Repeat applicants made up a sizable 30% of matriculants in the 2022-2023 admissions cycle.

Over the past ten years, there has been a significant amount of consolidation in the EHR sector. Over a decade ago, there were over 1,000 EHR vendors, according to KLAS Research. That number had fallen to about 400 as late as 2019. According to an examination of EHR purchasing activities that took place in 2021, Becker’s Hospital Review recently compiled a list of the top EHR platforms, sorted by share of the US hospital market.
