There were 55,188 applicants to US medical schools for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle, according to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Each of these applicants applied to 18 different medical schools, for a total of over 990,000 applications across all schools. In-state applicants outnumber out-of-state applicants. Among the 55,188 applicants, 24.6% enrolled in a medical school in their home state; 16.5% enrolled out of state. The remaining 59% were either rejected or chose not to enroll. Male medical students are now outnumbered by female students. There were 55% females and 45% males among the 22,692 first-year enrollees. Repeat applicants made up a sizable 30% of matriculants in the 2022-2023 admissions cycle.

Over the past ten years, there has been a significant amount of consolidation in the EHR sector. Over a decade ago, there were over 1,000 EHR vendors, according to KLAS Research. That number had fallen to about 400 as late as 2019. According to an examination of EHR purchasing activities that took place in 2021, Becker’s Hospital Review recently compiled a list of the top EHR platforms, sorted by share of the US hospital market.

To be ranked, medical schools must have received their full accreditation. For its most recent report, US News polled 192 medical and osteopathic schools. The following are the primary care ranking indicators: Faculty resources determined by the faculty-to-student ratio Academic qualifications of entering students, which are evaluated using the MCAT score, median undergraduate GPA, and institution acceptance rate Research activity is taken into account, including both overall federal research activity and average federal research per faculty member Primary care production is calculated as the proportion of graduates who were engaged in primary care practice as of 2021, as well as the proportion of MD and DO graduates who enrolled in primary care residencies
