Dentists may now take detailed pictures of the dentition and its surroundings thanks to cone beam scanning. The use of this modality in dental implant planning can help the dentist with the diagnostic stage of case planning, and the cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data can later be used to create surgical guides for dental implants. It is undeniable that CBCT provides more precise images of periodontal bone architecture than conventional films do, however there is little evidence to support the higher expense of cone beam imaging in terms of better periodontal diagnosis or total treatment success. Still, CBCT can be helpful in assessing bony regeneration processes and identifying other root anomalies.
