This podcast tells the story of Sarah, a 32-year-old US government research scientist who was seriously injured on a bike ride in July 2001 and became completely bedridden as a result of a fractured spine, broken rib, concussion, torn tendons, and other injuries. When she moved again, she was in excruciating pain and wondered if she should even bother. A clinical trial then changed her life.

Plasma P-tau217 significantly predicted longitudinal cognitive decline in both cohorts in this prognostic study of data from two preclinical AD cohort studies involving 171 cognitively unimpaired individuals with cerebrospinal fluid or positron emission tomographic measures of β-amyloid positivity. These findings imply that plasma P-tau217 could be used in clinical trials of novel disease-modifying treatments as a supplement to CSF or PET for participant selection.

The study enrolled 581 adult outpatients with DSM-5-diagnosed MDD, HDRS-17>=22, and >=32 on the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale. Patients were randomly assigned to receive zuranolone 20 mg, 30 mg, or placebo for 14 days, followed by an observation period (days 15-42) and an extended follow-up period (days 43–182). The primary endpoint in HDRS-17 at day 15 was change from baseline (CFB). MOUNTAIN did not meet its primary endpoint, but there were significant rapid improvements in depressive symptoms with zuranolone 30 mg at days 3, 8, and 12, and it was generally well tolerated in patients with MDD.

Researchers from Texas Tech University discovered that participants who had only ever sent (but never received) sexts reported higher levels of depression, anxiety, and sleep problems than the other groups. They also suggested a link between sexting, marijuana use, and compulsive sexual behavior. According to the report, more than half of adults have sent a sext, and women are up to four times more likely than men to have received nonconsensual sexts. Many people say they enjoy consensual sexting because it empowers them and builds their self-confidence, but nonconsensual sexting can cause feelings of violation and awkwardness.

Overall, studies on sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) counseling emphasize the importance of patient and family education and agree on its content and process. Future research should look into how it affects epilepsy management and the psychosocial well-being of adults and children with epilepsy and their caregivers from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as SUDEP rates. In this regard, the impact of newer technologies and health-care models should be assessed. Although the scientific community is hard at work elucidating the pathophysiology and prevention strategy of this dreaded occurrence, such longitudinal studies have the potential to inform both practice and policy, as well as act as a catalyst in bridging the currently existing gap between family-desired and clinician-provided counseling.

Researchers believe that the activity of its flagella, the hair-like projections that help bacteria move around, adhere to, and invade target cells, promotes inflammation in this ‘bacteria x’ species (the name is protected by patent). Previously, the researchers examined fecal samples from patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS), discovering a distinct microbiome profile associated with each MS type. The researchers discovered 12 bacterial species that were particularly enriched in the SPMS samples using bacterial DNA extracted from fecal samples from 62 RRMS and 15 SPMS patients. The highest correlation was found between bacteria X levels and patients’ disability levels, as measured by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS).
