A follow-up to the discussion we recently presented, this article asks doctors to look beyond the physical health of the patient to recognize and potentially treat muscle dysmorphia, the notion in which an individual is preoccupied with the idea that his or her body build is too small or insufficiently muscular.

The authors concluded that, after reviewing the 13-year-study, “switching to LAIs during the first 3 years of treatment improved antipsychotic adherence, decreased relapses, and reduced long-term mortality.” With few studies available comparing the long-term effectiveness between patients who switched to LAIs and those who remained on oral antipsychotics (OAPs), they hope the evidence presented supports the benefits of early LAI treatment in schizophrenia.

In this cross-sectional study of 586 probands and 698 first-degree relatives, cannabis use disorder and bipolar disorder II in probands were associated with an independent increase in risk of cannabis use disorder in relatives; bipolar disorder I and major depressive disorder in probands were not significantly associated with cannabis use disorder in relatives. The risk of cannabis use disorder was highest among relatives with both familial and individual history of bipolar disorder II.
