Researchers examined the OTC drug shopping patterns of 153 women before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer and compared them to the patterns seen in 120 women without ovarian cancer. Participants in the study also answered questions regarding the symptoms they had and the number of times they had seen their general practitioner in the year preceding a cancer referral or diagnosis. Eight months before diagnosis, there was a substantial difference in the OTC drug buying habits of women with and without ovarian cancer. Up to nine months prior to diagnosis, there was a rise in the purchasing of dyspepsia medications.

The modified Mifepristone Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program eliminates the requirement for in-person dispensing and replaces it with a requirement that pharmacies dispense the drug be certified. Mifepristone, a progestin antagonist, may now be dispensed by or under the supervision of a certified prescriber, or by a certified pharmacy on a prescription issued by a certified prescriber, for medical termination of pregnancy up to 10 weeks gestation (70 days or less since the first day of the last menstrual period).

Although research exists on the impact of CNS stimulants used in pregnancy, only a few small studies have looked at atomoxetine and pregnancy outcomes. This large cohort study of 4.2 million pregnancies ending in live births in northern Europe and the US reviewed nearly 1,000 pregnancies exposed to atomoxetine in the first trimester. Compared with non-exposed pregnancies, there was no observed increase in major congenital abnormalities with atomoxetine use in the first trimester.

The literature on chronic pain and stigma was reviewed by a group of academics from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, who published their findings in the journal Pain and Therapy. Perhaps most unexpectedly, they discovered that stigma surrounding pain persists even in clinical settings, resulting in clinicians’ inadequate evaluations of patients’ pain, doubt about the reality of their suffering, and lower pain ratings. These factors frequently result in inadequate treatment of pain and a propensity to believe that it is solely a psychological disorder.
