According to a news release from study lead author Colin Haile, a research associate professor of psychology at UH and the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES) and a founding member of the UH Drug Discovery Institute, “Our vaccine is able to generate anti-fentanyl antibodies that bind to the consumed fentanyl and prevent it from entering the brain, allowing it to be eliminated out of the body via the kidneys.” The person won’t experience the euphoric benefits as a result, and they can “get back on the wagon” to sobriety.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial including people with COPD and chronic breathlessness was conducted at 20 Australian medical centers. One-hundred sixty participants were randomized to oral extended-release morphine versus placebo. The change in the intensity of worst breathlessness at week 1 was not significantly different between the morphine group and the placebo group.

Gabapentin has been increasingly used as part of a multimodal analgesia regimen to reduce opioid use in perioperative pain management. In this cohort study of 237,872 adults aged 65 years or older, perioperative gabapentin users had significantly increased risk of delirium, new antipsychotic use, and pneumonia compared with nonusers after major surgery.

The colorful fentanyl, known as “rainbow fentanyl,” has been identified in 18 different states and has been found in a variety of forms, including pills, powder, and blocks that resemble sidewalk chalk, according to a press release from the agency. No particular color has been found to have a higher potency through testing. According to the DEA, every shade, shape, and size should be viewed as being exceedingly harmful.

Sufentanil sublingual tablet 30 mcg (Dsuvia, AcelRx), an effective novel tablet formulation of the synthetic opioid sufentanil, has been given FDA approval for the management of severe acute pain in adult patients in licensed medically supervised healthcare settings. The medication is administered sublingually in a single-dose, prefilled applicator.
