This cohort study discovered that depression, anxiety, perceived stress, loneliness, and worry about COVID-19 were prospectively associated with a 1.3- to 1.5-fold increased risk of self-reported post-COVID-19 conditions, as well as an increased risk of daily life impairment related to post-COVID-19 conditions.

The author concludes that “careful use of T3  and L-T4  can be critical mood-stabilizingoptions, especially for depressive illness that has not responded to first-line therapies,and can provide an alternative to other augmentation strategies such as atypicalantipsychotics, lithium, or esketamine/ketamine.”

In this study enrolling 478 young adults, of which 265 self-reported anxiety and 146 self-reported depression, high-dose vitamin B6 supplementation raised brain GABA levelsand reduced self-reported anxiety.

Treatment resistance affects nearly half of all young people experiencing moderate-to-severe anxiety. In this 12-week open-label trial, patients received add-on CBD after noclinical improvement on therapy with CBT and/or antidepressant medication. There wasa more than 40% reduction in mean OASIS scores and no serious or unexpectedadverse events.

In what is thought to be the largest study to date of any type of ketamine treatment, the findings revealed that, after four sessions, 89 percent of participants reported improvement in their depression and/or anxiety symptoms. On the PHQ-9 or GAD-7 scale, 63 percent of participants saw a 50% or greater improvement. PHQ-9 remission rates were 32.6 percent and GAD-7 remission rates were 31.3 percent. Furthermore, at the end of the four weeks, 62 percent of patients who had suicidal ideation prior to treatment reported no suicidal ideation.

Anxiety disorders are among the most common of psychiatric disorders, with estimates suggesting a lifetime prevalence in the US of approximately 32%. But development of new and effective treatments for anxiety disorders has lagged behind new treatments for other conditions such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. This article reviews current treatment and their effectiveness, and highlights the emerging new hopefuls.
