According to a 2019 survey of over 5,000 pharmacists, nearly one-third had faced workplace discrimination or harassment. According to one study, patient bullying is associated with increased stress and medication errors or near misses. The most common form of harassment reported was derogatory remarks about race or ethnicity, which were mostly made by male patients/customers. More than half of Black male pharmacists reported receiving derogatory remarks about race or ethnicity, and more than 80% of all pharmacists did not report these incidents, with more than 40% stating that they did not believe any action would be taken.

Nearly one-fourth of doctors say they have been subjected to verbal, physical, or sexual harassment at work, with patients and visitors being the most frequent agitators. Organizations must take action to safeguard physicians’ wellbeing since mistreatment has negative effects on patients’ health.

There have been few studies that have used validated measures to investigate the sexual harassment of physicians, never mind the sexual harassment of oncologists. According to the authors, this report is the first of its kind to examine the prevalence and types of sexual harassment experienced by oncologists, measuring their work experiences in three forms: sexual attention, sexual coercion, and gender harassment.
