Thirty-three studies comprised of 2,384 participants in various populations, including community dwellers, nursing home residents, and those with chronic disease, were identified. Hatha yoga was the foundation of most yoga styles, and Iyengar or chair-based methods were frequently used. A 12-month controlled trial randomized 189 individuals to spend 70–90 minutes performing 11 exercises or 20–30 minutes performing 5 exercises for 3 months. Outcomes were measured biweekly for the intervention period and again at 6 and 12 months. The two approaches were similar, except for one outcome. In the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for function in sports and recreation, high-dose therapy was superior.

Clinical trials of abaloparatide, a human parathyroid hormone related peptide analog, showed significantly increased bone mineral density at 12 months in the lumbar spine and femoral neck in men with osteoporosis.

In this study, more than 12,000 patients 18 years and older with hospitalization for extremity fracture were randomized to LWMH or aspirin. Rates of DVT were 1.7% and 2.5%, respectively. PE, bleeding complications, and other SAEs were similar across groups. Death occurred in 0.73% and 0.78% respectively for LWMH and aspirin.

This 70-study meta analysis concludes that the evidence is moderate to high that bisphosphonates and denosumab reduce the risk for hip, vertebral, and other fractures. The evidence is moderate to high that abaloparatide and teriparatide reduce clinical fractures and radiographic vertebral fractures, and low to moderate that SERMs reduce radiographic vertebral fractures, but not clinical fractures.
